Since moving to New York and transitioning out of nursing, Urena has appeared in advertising campaigns for Victoria's Secret, Ralph Lauren, Topshop, and Gap — all the while walking the runways of cool brands like DKNY, Phillip Lim, and Rag & Bone. She’s also appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue as one of their 2014 rookies and in the pages of Elle, CR Fashion Book, Muse, and W Magazine.

Sensing her star was on the rise, Maybelline scooped up Urena in 2015 — adding her to the growing roster of super models and IT girls.

We sat down with Chris Urena to talk beauty and sneak a peek inside her world.

Maybelline: You know that phrase, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

Urena: Of course.

Maybelline: As one of the most beautiful women in the world, what do you think makes a woman truly beautiful?

Urena: (thoughtfully) When she’s confident. When she shows her happiness from within. That’s beauty.

Maybelline: That’s the Maybelline IT. That’s why we’re having these interviews with our spokesmodels. Because you girls have IT. And we wanna share your secrets to letting that inner IT shine.

Urena: I love that! I’m so excited to be a part of the Maybelline family. Especially as an IT girl.

Maybelline: So tell us, what was your first Maybelline product you ever purchased?

Urena: It was for prom. I bought Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation. Can you believe that was my first time wearing foundation?

Maybelline: You have beautiful skin. What’s your secret?

Urena: I’m big into my morning skincare routine. I wash my face with a soft herbal cleanser, pump on some propolis serum moisturizer, and then end with some sunscreen. I also maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated as that’s the best for my skin!

Maybelline: Makes sense. So, who’s your style icon?

Urena: Definitely Bianca Jagger. She’s got a strong attitude and a fierce sense of style.

Maybelline: What are some of your can’t-leave-home-without-them Maybelline products?

Urena: Right now I’m digging Color Jolt in Violet Rebel. It’s like super intense lip paint and I get so many compliments on the shock of color. Also, Eye Studio Brow Drama. Because good brows are like the frame to a perfect picture. I always fill in mine before I leave for a casting.

Maybelline: Have you met the other Maybelline girls yet?

Urena: Yea! They’re amazing. One of the girls just turned me onto FaceStudio Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter. It’s like a spotlight in a tube. Plus, it doesn’t clog my pores — which I know my agent loves.

Maybelline: I bet! Lastly, any advice for our readers?

Urena: Not so much beauty advice as life advice.

Maybelline: Go ahead. Shoot.

Urena: I feel you don’t have to be a model to be beautiful. You just have to be confident. If makeup gives you that confidence, that’s awesome. If exercise or your career gives you that confidence, even better. But no matter what, the sidewalk should always be your catwalk. In life, you have to just walk with attitude.
